International Backgammon Championships Tournament
The International Backgammon Championships, an Olympic style backgammon tournament, is being planned for late 2012, according to Ross Gordon of BackgammonWorldwide.com. Entrants in the tournament can earn their share of a 50,000 purse, and the top finishers will also have a chance to play on 'Team USA'. Each country can be represented by up to 4 players.
This US Backgammon Federation ( http://usbgf.org ) is setting up and sanctioning tournaments that will result in the selection of the four backgammon players that will represent Team USA. These four spots will be earned by the top 4 finishers in the 64 player national playoff to be held this Fall (online play). USBGF affiliated backgammon clubs around thecountry will be holding small and inexpensive qualifier tournaments to give their club members a chance to earn a spot in the national playoffs. All US citizens and legal residents are eligible to earn their position on Team USA.
Qualifier tournaments must raise $80.00 to be sent to the USBGF along with the winner's name. Once a player wins a qualifying backgammon club tournament, his or her name will be submitted to the USBGF. Any winning player will then need to become a USBGF premium or youth member to maintain eligibility. They will then be paired for an online play-in match against another club qualifier from another part of the US. The winners of these matches will earn a position in the USA national playoffs.
All you have to do to get this chance is to enter one or more of the qualifier tournaments. You do not have to be a USBGF member to enter these club qualifiers.
